5 Signs Your Mercedes Needs A Service

Can’t remember when your Mercades has its last service? Here are some surefire signs its next one is long overdue.

Regular servicing is an essential part of any vehicle’s maintenance plan, yet millions of drivers on UK roads don’t see it as a priority.

Whilst an annual service isn’t a legal requirement, keeping up to date with them is important. Especially when you’ve invested in a luxury car like a Mercedes.

If you can’t remember the last time you took your car for a service, there are some signs you can be looking out for to let you know that one is long overdue, and our experts discuss just a few of them here.

1.    Stalling despite being in gear

Stalling. Be it at traffic lights or busy roundabouts during rush hour traffic, it happens to the best of us.

But when your car is in gear and you’ve got your clutch under control and you’re still stalling, alarms bells should be ringing.

There are many reasons why this could be happening, from clogged up fuel filers and dirty exhausts, to more serious electrical faults. So, it’s important to book your Mercedes in for a service as soon as possible so a mechanic can get to the bottom of the problem.

2.    Check engine light illuminated

Sometimes, the check engine light can come on even in minor situations.

But, thanks to the highly accurate sensors that Mercedes vehicles are equipped with, it will only come on if there’s a serious issue that needs your immediate attention.

If your Mercedes’ check engine light is illuminated, it’s likely due to one of the following issues:

  • Loosened or damaged fuel cap
  • Failing oxygen (O2) sensor
  • Clogged or damaged catalytic convertor

3.    Strange sounds

Strange noises coming from your car can often be a sign that something isn’t right.

From grinding and squeaking to rumbling and rattling, no matter how unimportant a noise may seem, you should never ignore it, as what could be a small and simple quick fix could turn into something a more serious and expensive repair.

4.    Poor fuel mileage

There are many reasons why you may be getting poor fuel mileage, including:

  • Tyre pressure – both over and underinflated tyres, you will lose fuel economy.
  • Dirty air filters – If your air filter is old and dirty, your engine woun’t be getting the amount of clean air it needs to burn the fuel.
  • Faulty oxygen sensor – Mercedes vehicles usually have four oxygen sensors to measure the air intake and emmissions output, when this system fails, it could result in poor fuel economy.
  • Fuel system – faulty fuel injectors or dirty, old fuel filters can massively affect the way the flow of fuel into the engine, causing poor gas mileage.

5.    Slower acceleration

If you’re putting your foot down on the accelerator and your Mercedes is taking longer than usual to speed up, then you need to take a trip to the mechanic.

There are a range of issues that can cause slow acceleration, including a stuck caliper piston and a range of engine problems, so getting everything checked over and repaired by a professional will help keep your pride and joy in safe, road-worthy condition.
