Tyre Repair and Replacement in Warrington
Good tyres give you a safe and comfortable drive. Worn or damaged tyres reduce your car’s performance, increase your stopping distance and raise the risk of skidding, especially in the wet.
Your tyres have four main jobs:
- Supporting the weight of your car
- Transmitting traction and braking forces to the road
- Absorbing road shocks for a more comfortable ride
- Keeping your car on the road in poor weather
Tyre pressure matters too. Under-inflated tyres increase fuel consumption and CO2 emissions and wear out faster, giving you less control. Over-inflated tyres reduce grip, making braking less stable.
If something doesn’t feel right, or you spot cracks, bulges, or cuts in a tyre sidewall, bring your car to our garage in Woolston, Warrington, and we’ll take a look.
Tyre checks are also included with our MOTs in Warrington.
Our Tyre Services
New Tyres and Tyre Fitting
We supply and fit new tyres for cars and vans, including Davanti tyres. Our tyre fitting in Warrington covers everything from finding the right size, load rating, and speed rating for your vehicle to fitting and balancing the wheels before you drive away.
We’ll talk you through budget, mid-range, and premium options so you can choose what suits your driving and your budget.
Puncture Repair
Many punctures can be safely repaired rather than replacing the whole tyre. Our puncture repair in Warrington follows the British Standard for tyre repairs (BS AU 159), which only allows repairs to small punctures in the central part of the tread. If a repair isn’t safe, we’ll explain why and give you a price for a replacement before doing any work.
Tyre Checks
Not sure whether your tyres are legal? We’ll check the tread depth, pressure, and condition of each tyre, look at your tyre pressure monitoring system if your car has one, and tell you honestly whether anything needs doing.
If your tyres are wearing unevenly or your car pulls to one side, the cause may be your alignment rather than the tyres themselves. Our wheel alignment service can correct it and help your new tyres last longer.

When Do You Need New Tyres?
The legal minimum tread depth for cars in the UK is 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tread, all the way around the tyre. Driving on illegal tyres can mean a fine of up to £2,500 and three penalty points for each tyre. Grip in the wet drops as tread wears, so it’s worth replacing tyres before they reach the limit.
Book a tyre check or replacement if you notice:
- Tread at or close to 1.6mm, or level with the wear indicator bars in the grooves
- Cracks, cuts or bulges in the sidewall
- A puncture in the sidewall or shoulder, which can’t be repaired
- A tyre that keeps losing pressure
- Tyres that are more than 10 years old, even if the tread looks fine
Most tyres last between 20,000 and 30,000 miles, depending on the tyre, your car and how you drive. To check a tyre’s age, find the four-digit date code on the sidewall: the first two digits are the week and the last two are the year, so 0622 means week 6 of 2022. If your tyres are 5 years old or more, have them checked regularly.

Choosing the Right Tyres
The right tyre depends on your vehicle, how far you drive and the conditions you drive in. Every new tyre sold in the UK carries a label rating its fuel efficiency, wet grip, and noise, and our team can explain what those ratings mean for you.
- Summer tyres suit most UK drivers for most of the year and give the best grip in dry and wet conditions above around 7°C.
- All-season tyres balance year-round performance, a popular choice if you’d rather not swap tyres twice a year.
- Winter tyres use a softer compound and deeper tread for better grip in cold, icy, and snowy conditions.
Electric and hybrid vehicles are heavier and deliver power instantly, which can wear tyres faster. If you drive an EV or hybrid, we can recommend suitable tyres alongside our electric and hybrid servicing.

Boasting over 35 years in car servicing and repairs, it’s no surprise we have car owners from all over Cheshire coming to us with damaged, malfunctioning, or under-performing vehicles.
It’s best not to. Driving on a flat tyre can damage the sidewall and the wheel, and can turn a puncture we could have repaired into one that needs a new tyre.
Fit your spare or use your car’s repair kit, then drive carefully to us. Run-flat tyres can usually be driven for a limited distance at reduced speed, so check your handbook for the limits on your car.
It usually means one or more tyres have dropped below their recommended pressure. Check and inflate your tyres as soon as it’s safe to do so. If the light stays on, or flashes before staying lit, there may be a fault with a sensor or the system itself.
A lit tyre pressure warning light is an MOT failure on cars first used from 1 January 2012, so it’s worth getting checked before your test.
Not always, but tyres on the same axle should match in size, type, and pattern, and ideally have similar tread depth. If you’re only replacing two, the newer tyres are generally fitted to the rear axle to help the car stay stable in the wet.
Four-wheel-drive vehicles can be more sensitive to mismatched tyres, so ask us before replacing just one or two.
All tyres sold legally in the UK must meet minimum safety standards, so a budget tyre in good condition is safe to use. The differences show up in wet grip, braking distances, road noise, and how long the tyre lasts.
Comparing the ratings on the tyre label is a good starting point, and our team can help you weigh up price against performance for the driving you do.
It isn’t always needed, but it’s a good idea if your old tyres wore unevenly, your car pulls to one side, or you’ve recently hit a kerb or pothole. Fitting new tyres without fixing the alignment can mean they wear out early. Find out more about our wheel alignment in Warrington.
