How often you need to change your engine oil will vary depending on several factors, including the age of your vehicle, the type of oil it takes and driving conditions it has been subjected to.
It used to be normal to change engine oil every 3,000 miles. However, thanks to modern lubricants, most engines only require an oil change every 5,000 – 7,500 miles or so.
Alternatively, if your vehicle requires a fully synthetic engine oil, like Shell oil, you could go as far as 15,000 miles without needing it changed!
If you’re not making long trips at high, steady speeds, you should check your engine oil more frequently.
This is because your engine isn’t getting hot enough to boil off the condensation that builds up in the system – causing your oil to break down at a much faster rate.
