Tyre Repair and Replacement in Warrington

You must never underestimate the importance of good tyres and wheel aligment. You should make sure that you keep them in good condition and seek advice if you are not sure.

Your tyres have 4 main functions:-

  • Support the weight of your car
  • Transmit traction and braking forces
  • Absorb road shocks – increasing comfort
  • Keep your vehicle on the road during adverse weather conditions

Good tyres guarantee a safe and comfortable ride, whereas poor tyres reduce the performance of your car, increasing the stopping distance and the risk of skidding. Under-inflated tyres will increase fuel consumption, and C02 emissions and wear out much faster, giving you less control. Over-inflated tyres reduce grip, giving you less stable braking and less control.

If you think something isn’t right, visit CJ Auto Service Ltd. Furthermore, if you see signs of damage or cracks in the tyre wall, come visit our premises in Woolston, Warrington.

The depth of your tyre tread should be checked regularly — the limit is 1.6mm for normal tyres. If your tyres need repairing, replacing or inflating, please contact us and we’ll be happy to help.

Tyre and brake checks are also included with our MOT checks and vehicle servicing.

Boasting over 35 years in car servicing and repairs, it’s no surprise we have car owners from all over Cheshire coming to us with damaged, malfunctioning, or under-performing vehicles.

The braking system, as we are all aware, is what’s responsible for bringing your vehicle to a safe stop.

Wear to any of the brake components, or even failure, poses a serious threat to safety and car functionality.

Some warning signs you should look out for include:

• Squeaking or squealing sounds coming from the brakes
• Brake light illuminated on your dashboard
• Grinding sounds when applying your brakes
• Vibrating brake pedal

As the only part of your vehicle to touch the ground, your tyres experience the most wear and tear and they need replacing more often than you might think.

On average, most tyres are sufficient to drive for around 20,000-30,000 miles. However, if you’ve been driving on the same tyres for more than 5 years, you should make a point of having them inspected regularly to make sure they’re still in good condition.

Any tyres over 10 years old should be replaced as well to ensure your vehicle is safe to drive.

You can find out when your tyres were produced by reading the markings on the sidewall of your tyre – where you’ll find a four-digit number which represents a month and a year, i.e., 0615 would represent June 2015.

If you feel it’s time for a set of new tyres, be sure to get in touch with us here at CJ Auto Service by calling 01925 589 066 or emailing reception@cjautoservice.co.uk

To keep your tyres in tip-top condition, there are a few things you can do:

Check the pressure regularly
To keep yourself and your passengers safe, make sure to check your tyre pressure at least once a month.

Don’t overload your car
Overloading your car can be more damaging than you might think for your tyres.
Most tyres now include a label which will have the tyre load index marked on it and you should take care not to exceed the recommended amount.

Be mindful when mounting the kerb
Sometimes, mounting the kerb is unavoidable, but you should make sure that you are mindful and careful in your approach if there is no other option.

Replacing your brakes – be it on your car, van, or motorcycle – can be pretty pricey, but there are a few things you can do to keep them in good condition and avoid expensive repairs. Our tips include:

Avoid heavy and excessive braking

We understand that this is unavoidable sometimes, but you should try to steer clear of overusing your brakes and applying too much pressure to the pedals when you need to slow down or stop.
Being gentle on the brakes and only using them when you need to will put your brake pads under much less stress, slowing the rate of wear and tear.

Check your brake fluid regularly
If your brake pedal feels spongy, it takes your vehicle longer to slow down or come to a complete stop, or your brake warning light is illuminated, this could indicate low brake fluid.
Generally, you should replace your brake fluid every two years, but this depends on your vehicle manufacturer, so be sure to check your handbook for their recommendations.

Use engine braking
Engine braking is an alternate way to slow your vehicle down. All you need to do is take your foot off the accelerator and go down through the gears until you’ve slowed down or come to a complete stop. Try to do this wherever possible to avoid applying contact pressure to your brakes.
